Title: Praxeological History of Science / Regional Geography. Reflections on concepts in research and teaching

In his talk, Tobit Nauheim will give an overview of his research interests in history of geography, historical geography, and geographies of knowledge. He will pay special attention to the 19th-century German geographer Johann Justus Rein's research journeys to Japan, the impact of these visits and Rein's resulting publications on the geographical imaginations of Japan in Germany, and the possibilities of teaching regional geography with a firm historical perspective.
