Professional visit by Henry Yeung (Singapore)
On June 19, 2023, Henry Yeung, Professor of Economic Geography at the National University of Singapore (NUS), visited our university. Professor Yeung is a leading figure in global economic geography, a prominent representative of global production network research and the Manchester School of economic geography, and co-director of the NUS Global Production Networks Centre. His influential studies have been published in leading international journals in his field, and his books have been published by Cornell, Oxford, and Stanford University Press, among others. The American Association of Geographers (USA), the Royal Geographical Society (UK), and the Regional Studies Association have recognized his work with their highest honors. His citation index exceeds 25,000, and NUS is ranked as the world's fifth most prestigious institution in the field of geography according to the QS 2023 international university rankings.
Professor Yeung gave a lecture entitled "Explaining the Interconnected Worlds of Global Production Networks: Global Electronics Industry in the Post-Pandemic 2020s" to teachers and students on his latest research findings analyzing global production networks in the electronics industry. He also held professional discussions with Dr. László Zentai, Vice Rector for Education at ELTE, Dr. Imre Kacskovics, Dean of ELTE's Faculty of Science, and Dr. Szabolcs Harangi, Director of the Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences at ELTE's Faculty of Science. The meetings were attended by two organizers of Professor Yeung's professional program, Dr. Ferenc Gyuris, Head of the Department of Social and Economic Geography, and Dr. József Benedek, professor at Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca and the University of Miskolc.
Henry Yeung's professional trip to Hungary concluded with lectures at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (organized by the Department of Earth Sciences) and at the Eötvös Loránd Research Network's Center for Economic and Regional Studies.
